I usually try to buy yarn when I have a specific project in mind, but when I saw this gorgeous colorway from Malabrigo, I just had to have it!
I didn’t have any kind of project in mind when I bought it, but I knew that this yarn would make a wonderful shawl or wrap. I had so much fun designing the Dragon Shawl and the Kraken Shawl, but I wanted to try something a little bit different…
The name of this colorway is Aguas, and after some careful thought I decided to turn this gorgeous yarn into something to honor another one of my favorite mythological creatures: the Loch Ness monster.
I’ve always wanted to believe in the existence of a magnificent creature living beneath the surface of Loch Ness. My husband is a firm denier, but I want so badly to believe that Nessie is there! To show my love for Nessie, I designed this wrap to showcase her elegant beauty and to profess my belief. Now you can make your own Nessie Wrap and proudly proclaim “I believe!” right along with me!
The Nessie Wrap is made using the filet crochet stitch in a rectangular shape, unlike the triangular shapes of the Kraken Shawl and the Dragon Shawl. It’s just the right size to cozy up with, without being too bulky. Plus, those colors are simply to die for, am I right?
If you really want Nessie to stand out against the mesh background of the wrap, I would recommend that you use a non-variegated yarn as the different color variegation (while absolutely gorgeous) can make it a little more difficult to see Nessie and the wording on the wrap.
In this pattern, I’ve included all kinds of notes, charts/diagrams, and even a link to a video tutorial on the filet crochet technique. If you can do a chain stitch and a double crochet stitch, then you can make this shawl!
At this time, the Nessie Wrap pattern will not be released as a free pattern on this website. However, it is available for purchase from my Etsy shop.
