Sometimes you just need to have a good squishy hat–am I right?
If you’re in need of a beanie pattern that is quick to work up, easy to make, and will instantly become one of your all-time favorites, then the Dewberry Beanie is the perfect choice!
Why the “Dewberry” Beanie, you ask? The delightful bobbles on this hat immediately made me think of berries, but the color just wasn’t right for a blackberry or a raspberry. After struggling to come up with a proper name for this hat, my husband pointed out that it looked a little like a nearly-ripe dewberry–which was a berry I had never heard of before! So I looked it up, and this is what I found…do the colors remind you of anything?
To make this beanie, I used Malabrigo Rasta yarn in the color Boreal. It’s the first “fancy” yarn that I’d ever bought, which I purchased about four years ago! I had never really found the right project for it, so it sat and sat in storage for a long while. I stumbled across it when cleaning out my yarn stash, and after snuggling with it for a bit (don’t judge!), I knew the soft squishy fibers would make for a great hat. Thus, the Dewberry Beanie was born!
This pattern uses simple single crochet for the band and a combination of bobbles and single crochet stitches for the main hat. It’s quick to work up–you could make one in an evening!–and it’s so fun! If you can do single crochet and can follow the instructions provided for making the bobbles, you can totally make this hat!
The Malabrigo Rasta yarn is a little pricey, so you could definitely substitute for any other super-bulky yarn you prefer. However, I need to tell you that the Rasta made for a hat that was super soft, super warm, and super comfortable to wear! My Dewberry Beanie feels like an extension of my own head, rather than a bulky hat that sits on top. I’m absolutely in love with this and I want to make one for everyone I know!
At this time, the Dewberry Beanie pattern will not be released as a free pattern on this website. However, it is available for purchase from my Etsy shop. Currently, the Dewberry Beanie pattern only comes in the teen/adult size, but you could always try sizing down a hook and/or yarn weight to get a smaller sized hat!
