Happy Friday, crafters!
This week has been crazy busy for me, both craft-wise and otherwise! Today was one of my co-worker’s last day in the office, and I wanted to make her something special. Our mascot is the eagle, and since she started school here and since this was her first real-world job, I thought a crocheted amigurumi eagle would be much appreciated!
I used this pattern for Ghengis the Eagle from The Smiling Robot blog. The pattern is easy to follow, though here’s a tip: I believe it’s written in UK terms! I say this because I have used this pattern two different times to make two different eagles, each time getting a different result.
The pattern is worked in the double crochet stitch, which I personally feel is too open a stitch for amigurumi work. So the first time I used this pattern, I supplemented single crochet stitches instead. The result looked very much like the pictures provided with the pattern. THat should have been a clue.
This time around, I thought I would be adventurous and tried the double crochet stitch, and the result was a much larger eagle than intended. Whoops!
He’s still pretty cute, though!
I really love him, and so did my co-worker. Also pictured is a really neat coffee cup cozy in our school colors. Go Eags! You can find the basis for that pattern here.
Happy crafting, and happy Friday!
